Makeup is all the cosmetic products and accessories used to highlight an individual’s natural beauty, add drama or create illusion. Contrary to being a cover of imperfection, it is a highlighter of perfection and an expression of artistic creativity. (My definition:-)
To begin aisthetikos 7/7, you have to appreciate your natural beauty because having been created by the Omnipotent, you can’t be anything less of perfection.
Strolling around Mlimani city (a popular mall in Dar, Tanzania) I couldn’t help but find myself gazing at all the girls with flashy/shimmery shades in sync with ‘party mode’ in the absence of a party. The technique was fine, it was only disturbing because it was show cased in the wrong platform.
In different parts of town I’ve seen many beautiful girls who have an eye for makeup play it up a notch with false lashes, contact lenses, glitters, sequins, body stickers/fake tattoos (falls under body art but still fits) etc . In this festive season, I suppose that everyone wants to look their best. The only problem is that there is a fine line between getting it right and looking awfully misplaced.
Even though there is no right or wrong creative expression, there is a time and place for everything. You have to know when to adopt a certain adorable look that you have seen on a magazine, TV or conjured in your head.
We are all familiar with Galileo Galilei who was put in a house arrest for expressing his ideas in the wrong place at the wrong time- the bottom line is – let’s learn when and where to wear what!
Thus been said, you want to wear makeup that is appropriate, you don’t want to be spotted looking like ‘Barbie in the mall’ unless you are on a ‘shopping spree’ themed party and you happen to be a doll or in a fashion photo shoot inspired by the famous doll.
Party and fantasy makeup is probably the most challenging type of makeup technique because it needs creativity. This week I will look at 7 different accessories used by makeup artists to create dramatic looks in both fantasy and party makeup and how to apply them in everyday makeup.
